the origin of the arrow of time!
Transcript:
Hi! So, I've been reading this interesting book called "Seven Brief Lessons on Physics" by Professor Carlo Rovelli. I highly recommend you read it, and in that book, Professor Rovelli makes this amazing statement. He says time is at the intersection of quantum mechanics, gravity, and thermodynamics. The interaction of these three fundamental branches of physics gives an insight into why time even exists. It's beautiful.
One of the things he says is that Stephen Hawking figured this out—that black holes radiate heat—and this is a clue, because the radiation of the black hole comes from—it's actually a quantum effect which is acting on a gravitational object, which is the black hole. So, intense gravity and quantum effect results in heat being radiated from the black hole, and this insight, he will further develop to explain why time even exists and why time has a direction—why there's an arrow of time. So, we'll look at it. It's pretty interesting.
So, for now, this is enough. Okay, bye.
