So, what's the connection between slime mold and astrophysics? Turns out there's an amazing connection.

So, there are large-scale structures in the universe that look like this. For the longest time, models that were developed to explain these structures and the movement of galaxies within these large-scale filaments across the vast expanse of space, these models could not explain how these galaxies move. But when researchers — when astrophysics people — applied the algorithm of slime mold movement, now slime mold is very efficient in finding out new spaces and moving towards them. And when that algorithm was applied to these large-scale structures in the universe, there was a stunned realization that the physics of what is happening below us is exactly the same as the physics that is happening in large-scale universe structure formation.
