Quantization Solves a Problem!

Transcript:

So, anytime something that appears continuous is discretized—or the word is quantized—it is not done just willy-nilly; it is done for a specific reason. For example, when Planck discretized energy into unique packets, there was a reason he did that. Because the problem was, if you use the continuum models to estimate how much energy can be radiated out of a finite furnace, the answer would come out—infinite energy. And this was obviously not right. So Planck discretized the energy, or quantized the energy, to solve this problem, and then he got the correct answer.

And then how do you know that it's correct? Because when he extrapolated this quantization to energy radiated by the sun, he got precisely the... the radiation emission and also predicted the peak of the radiation emission, which was experimentally measured. Same thing Bohr did. He quantized the orbitals of the electron inside the atom because the continuum models would make the atom unstable. So, each time quantization happens, it solves a problem.

So now the question is, why did Maharshi Vasishth quantize the mind in Yoga Vasishta? This is the question. Let me know if you know the answer.
