Mind: Causal Linkages!!

Transcript:

Ok, take a look at these two photos. Now, what story did your mind make up? When you saw the first photo, it wasn't clear what was happening. When you saw the second photo, the mind linked the first photo to the second one, saying the raw ingredients were in the first photo and the final product, the upma, was in the second photo. That's what the mind did, isn't it?

This is exactly how the mind works. It causally links events, and these events are stand-alone snapshots that are presented to the mind. And this is exactly what Maharshi Vashisht told Lord Ram when he asked him a question of reality. He says causality is imposed by the mind on two distinct snapshots that are presented to it. For example, Vashisht gives an example of a bird sits on a branch of a tree and a fruit falls. One event is linked to the other by the mind when, in fact, those two events are completely independent. This causal linkage is the source of vruttis.
