I can Sleep when the Wind Blows
Transcript:
Long, long time ago, there was a farmer who owned a piece of land along the Atlantic Seacoast, and the storms from the Atlantic are devastating. They would destroy the whole farm. So it is difficult to find help. Finally, one man approached the farmer saying, "I will work on your farm." And the farmer asked, "Are you a good farm hand?" And the man said, "I can sleep when the wind blows." The farmer was puzzled, but he hired the guy anyway.
And the man was a very good worker. He would work from dawn to dusk, just doing all kinds of farm work very well. And then one day, the storms came. The farmer jumped out of his bed. He ran to this man's room. He shook him up and said, "Let's go. We have to take care of the farm." And the man rolled over on his bed, looked at the farmer, and said, "Sir, I told you. I can sleep when the wind blows."
The farmer was enraged. He went out to take care of the farm, and to his amazement, he found that the hay was covered in tarps. The chickens were in the coop, the cows were in the barn, everything was tied down, nothing could blow away. And then he understood—the man could sleep when the wind blows.
Can you sleep when the wind blows in your life? Are you prepared? Are you taking care of your body, eating well, exercising? Are you taking care of your mind, resting it? This is the preparation. The sadhana work we do is the preparation so that we can sleep when the wind blows, because the winds will blow.
