Delayed Gratification

Transcript:

A couple of days ago, someone sent me this nice article on the benefits of delayed gratification. So, this is what psychologists have realized over the years that delaying gratification by a little bit leads to tremendous growth in mental stability, the ability to deal with adverse situations in life. The associated benefit is also wealth accumulation and all of this stuff. But delayed gratification is not something that the West invented or realized. Delayed gratification has been proposed many thousands of years ago by Maharshi Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. There is a three-step process called Kriya Yoga which accelerates the development of mental well-being, and those three steps are Tapa, Svadhyaya and Ishwarapranidhana. And Tapa, the first one, is essentially delayed gratification. So this year, make a resolve that you will delay gratification by a little bit. There are many ways to do it. One way is to, when you eat mint, resist the urge to bite it right away.
