Connectivity vs Connection
Transcript:
So, I was recently on a flight, and from my flight, I was WhatsApping with someone on another flight. And I was thinking to myself, the means available to me to maintain connectivity with people has exploded over my lifetime. Initially, it was writing letters, and those letters would take 7 days to go one way and 7 days to come back if that person answered promptly. So, 15-day turnaround.
Then, eventually, we got the ability to make phone calls. Then we got the ability to write email. Then we got dial-up internet. Then now internet is on our phone. In spite of this much connectivity (means of connectivity) ...depression is at its peak. The number of depressed people in the world is at its peak. So, connectivity does not mean connection. The antidote to depression is genuine connection. And over the years, this apparent connectivity boost has cut out real connection. And this... This is a major problem.
