Black Seaweed!
Transcript:
So, yesterday we looked at the color of the leaf, and why it is green, and how the photosynthesis that happens by the chlorophyll molecule absorbs the blues and the reds. So now, let's look at what happens below the ocean or not below the ocean, in the water of the ocean. Seaweed also does photosynthesis, it is extensively studied in the literature, the photosynthesis mechanism of seaweed. But there is one interesting difference.
Here is a photo, here is a picture of like a selection of seaweed and look at it closely and you will notice one thing. You notice that the seaweed has varying colors but most importantly one of the color of the seaweed is black. So, black is a valid color of a leaf that is doing photosynthesis, but we never see a black leaf on land and there is a reason for it. There is a reason for it. If you know what the reason is, let me know in the comments. If I don't get the right answer in couple of days, I will make a video explaining why seaweed can be black, but leaves are always green.
