Ayurveda - When to eat Sweet

Transcript:

Hi, welcome to another episode of "A Little Something About Everything." Today, when we went out for dinner, the first thing I ordered was Gulab Jamun as a starter. And there was a wry smile on the waiter's face, thinking, "Wait a minute, Gulab Jamun?"

The ancient science of Ayurveda recommends that sweets be eaten the first thing during any meal, not as the last thing that we usually do. There are two reasons for it. The first is that the sweet taste is the most difficult to digest taste. Hence, it has to be eaten when the digestive fire is at its highest, which is at the beginning of the meal. The second reason is that once the sweet is eaten, it takes the edge off the digestive fire so that the tendency to gobble down the food is reduced or even eliminated.

So, these two are the major insights from Ayurveda on when sweets have to be eaten during a meal. That's it for this episode. See you in the next one. Bye.
