4 Levels of Instruction

Transcript:

So, instruction in the arts, for example, if you are learning to dance or to sing or to paint, instruction comes at four levels and these four levels are what? They are Shastra, Tantra, Vidya and Kala.

So Shastra is the principle. Shastra is never taught; it's only explained. You can never teach Shastra. Tantra is the technique. Tantra is taught. Tantra can be taught. Shastra can never be taught. Vidya is the knowledge. Vidya is only given because knowledge is not ours as instructors to give. Vidya is only shared; it's only given. And Kala is the aesthetic, is the essence. The student has to practice, practice, practice to develop the Kala because unless the essence is understood, the art does not manifest.

It's pretty important. And I think these four levels also apply to physical sciences. Let me know.
